Kanavaranta 1 designed by Alvar Aalto, Helsinki

Alvar Aalto originally designed the iconic headquarters for Enso Gutzeit in 1962. The Kanavaranta 1 property has now been renovated into office space for rent to companies for the first time in its long history related to the forest industry.

Lumir has improved the acoustics of the property’s facilities in several phases. The staff restaurant was already sprayed in 2020, and at the end of 2022, the office premises on the second and third floors were completed. The acoustics solution is based on the Lumir Comfort carbon-negative acoustic coating and the Lumir Board perforated gypsum, which was installed on suspended ceilings as an acoustic base material. The acoustics of the workstations were enhanced by installing LW40, or Lumir Wool 40 mm glass wool sheets, under the Lumir Comfort acoustic coating.

Our offices are now occupied by DLA Piper Finland Oy. “The sound environment in our office is pleasant and harmonious. Thanks to professional acoustics design and high-quality acoustic solutions, working in open workspaces is peaceful,” says Ilkka Liljeroos, Managing Partner at DLA Piper Finland Oy.

The main and architectural design of Kanavaranta 1 has been carried out by Ark-byroo. Alvar Aalto was characterised by the use of natural materials and organic forms, which aimed to create a balancing and, on the other hand, inspiring atmosphere. Lumir, as a truly natural and Finnish carbon-negative material, supports these goals excellently.
