Lumir acoustic solutions

Our acoustic solutions enable efficient control of sound in a space so that there is a balance between different sound frequency categories and the soundscape is always natural in accordance with our customer promise.

Lumir Comfort – our acoustic coating is carbon negative material that works itself as sound absorbent. The product is therefore suitable for spraying directly on all hard ceiling and wall surfaces.

Lumir offering is complemented by acoustic solutions (acoustics classes A-D), which uses acoustic base boards Lumir Board (LB13) and Lumir Wool (LW20/40) with the Lumir Comfort coating, depending on requirements.

One of our strengths is that all our acoustic solutions reduce construction emissions more than comparable competing acoustic solutions.

Lumir Comfort – carbon-negative and seamless acoustic coating is the core of all our acoustic solutions

Lumir Comfort is the most aesthetically discreet carbon-negative acoustic coating on the market. The spray coating has a dry thickness of 8 mm and can be installed directly on surfaces of all shapes, such as the arched ceiling in the picture.

Basic properties and applications

Key features: carbon negative, all colours and shapes, quick installation (no plating, smoothing or seam lacing).

Applications: directly on hard and complex surfaces such as concrete, gypsum board, fire wool and the T-grid systems.

Our most cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution.

Lumir acoustic solutions
Lumir Comfort + Lumir Board (LB)

Lumir Comfort and Lumir Board (LB) is Lumir´s acoustic solution that combines the features of Lumir Comfort coating with the additional sound absorbing properties of 13 mm perforated gypsum board. The total thickness of the solution is about 20 mm. The solution is very quick to install on large surfaces directly to replace, for example, basic building plasterboards, and it is suitable when the LB has an air gap at the back, for example in suspended ceilings.

Basic properties and applications

Key features: Flat and straight surfaces, wall and ceiling structures, for which perforated gypsum board is suitable as a backing material. Quick to install.

Applications: All Lumir´s acoustic solutions can be implemented on normal suspended structures. The frame material can be either metal framed or wooden. Both metal or wooden frames can also be used in wall acoustics implementations.

Lumir acoustic solutions
Lumir Comfort + Lumir Wool (LW)

Lumir Comfort and Lumir Wool (LW) is Lumir’s acoustic solution which combines the properties of Lumir Comfort coating with the additional sound absorbing properties of 20 mm or 40 mm glass wool panels. The total thickness of the solution is 28 mm or 48 mm. This acoustic solution provides the most effective sound absorbtion in the most acoustically demanding spaces.

Basic properties and applications

Key features: Flat and curved surfaces on which acoustic glass wool boards can be installed, wall and ceiling structures. Our solution for demanding room acoustics.

Applications: All Lumir´s acoustic solutions can be implemented on normal suspended structures. The frame material can be either metal framed or wooden. Both metal or wooden frames can also be used in wall acoustics implementations.

Lumir Comfort + Lumir Wool (LW) + Lumir Board (LB)

We always offer acoustic solutions innovatively according to the space and user needs.

For example, when installing wall structures, Lumir Board (LB) perforated gypsum boards are placed under Lumir Comfort coating at the bottom up to 2 meters, with Lumir Wool (LW) glass wool at the top. The change of materials is not visible and simultaneously we achieve optimal impact resistance and room acoustics. For example, the walls of the atrium courtyards of properties have been implemented with very successful results in this way.

Manufacturing:

Lumir Comfort is manufactured from softwood cellulose, a domestic wood raw material from PEFC or FSC certified forests. Cellulose accounts for 75-91% of the dry matter content.

Recyclability:

Lumir Comfort and Lumir Board (LB) and Lumir Wool (LW) are recyclable materials.

Serviceability and cleanability:

The Lumir Comfort surface is maintenance-free. Surface cleaning by light vacuuming. The Lumir surface is antistatic, which prevents dust and dirt from sticking. For sensitive areas, e.g. around the ventilation terminals, Lumir Clee’s dirt-repellent treatment.

Durability:

The Lumir Comfort surface is hard when dried and therefore also suitable for walls. The coating is through-dyed, meaning small dents keep their color.

Surfaces and colours

Lumir acoustic solutions are based on the wood fibre’s own porous structure. Lumir surface structures are Lumir smooth and Lumir spray. The Lumir smooth surface is carefully troweled and from a normal viewing distance the surface looks very smooth and even.

Lumir Comfort acoustic coating combines high-quality, impressive surface quality in all shades with acoustic properties. Our product is suitable for versatile and demanding sites, such as historical sites protected by the Finnish Heritage Agency.

Through years of research and product development, we have created an extensive library of our own shades, and we are also able to dye our coating in a fully customized manner to the shades of all common colour charts. If the color code is completely missing, we measure the initial values of the desired shade and make samples for the customer approval before the final spraying work.

Structural cuts

Installation of our acoustic coating Lumir Comfort directly on hard surfaces (ceilings/walls) and installation of the Lumir acoustic solution on a wooden or metal frame with Lumir Board (LB) or Lumir Wool (LW20/40) as acoustic back materials. Installation of acoustic boards and Lumir acoustic spraying work

All Lumir´s acoustic solutions can be implemented on normal suspended structures. The frame material can be either metal framed or wooden. Both metal or wooden frames can also be used in wall acoustics implementations.

We use either pre-primed 20 mm or 40 mm thick Lumir Wool (LW) glass wool or 13 mm thick perforated gypsum board Lumir Board (LB). The installation of acoustic boards is typical construction work for suspended ceiling contractors, and often Lumir-trained partners are only responsible for spraying work with efficient and sophisticated pump and spraying equipment. Contract limits are always agreed separately according to the customer’s needs.

Lumir Sound Absorption Classes
  • Lumir Comfort + Lumir Wool (LW) = A-C CLASS
  • Lumir Comfort + Lumir Board (LB) = B-C CLASS
  • Lumir Comfort (directly on hard surface) = D CLASS

Sound absorption classes ISO 11654

The sound absorption properties of a material are expressed as its absorption ratio at different frequencies of sound. The attenuation coefficient αS is 0 when the surface reflects all sound directed at it and 1 when all sound applied to the surface is absorbed by it.

Maintenance and care

Lumir Comfort surface is maintenance-free. Surface cleaning by light vacuuming. The Lumir surface is antistatic, which prevents dust and dirt from sticking. Cleaning is enhanced by Lumir Cleen – a dirt-repellent coating sprayed on easily soiled areas.

Our acoustic coating is tough when completely dry after installation. Due to impacts, abrasions and dents may appear on the surface. The Lumir surface can be corrected to bring out the original smoothness and shade. As a repair method, either light surface sanding is applied, or only wetting the surface with water, while pressing fibrous material to the damaged area. More detailed instructions for maintenance and possible repairs can be downloaded here.
